This piece is a visual exploration of the quadrant or quarter of a circle. In modern design, materials and processes often become subject matter in and of themselves. I developed this bowl through the process of creating a grid on a wheel thrown pot and altered the surface using lines and curves. These shapes extend off the pot to become the altered rim. It is as if the vase is actually made up of soft geometric shapes rather than existing only as surface decoration. I make my own molds, casting slip, glazes etc. This piece is food safe. The interior is glazed. The exterior has glazed and unglazed, wet sanded surfaces that are polished smooth to a satin surface. The unglazed surfaces are vitrified and water tight.
